Kennedy Wind Farm welcomes the CopperString Infrastructure of Significance Declaration (IFS)
The Queensland Government recently declared the CopperString line 'Infrastructure of Significance'. This support means the line is more likely to be delivering power to Mt Isa on schedule, including the addition of the Renewable energy hub at Hughenden through which Kennedy will connect.
'The CopperString line is very important to North Queensland' said Windlab COO Luke Osborne. 'Not only does it provide a scalable connection to the national grid for Mt Isa, it allows the nation's largest cluster of renewable projects to come on line. This will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of mineral extraction in the Northwest Minerals Province.'
'The wind farm will allow the economy of the entire region to diversify and become more resilient by injecting up to $80million of economic activity into this region. Around 240 direct jobs during construction will be created and approximately 40 full time operational jobs will exist once built.
The Kennedy project is progressing well with planning studies and expects to submit an application to Flinders Shire Council in coming months.
