Windlab Developments South Africa (Pty) Ltd and Cennergi (Pty) Limited are pleased to announce a partnership to develop the first phase of one of South Africa's leading wind farm projects.

The project, near the town of Bedford in the Eastern Cape, has the potential to form part of a major wind energy centre, with an excellent wind resource and proximity to infrastructure such as roads and the national electricity grid.

The first phase of the Amakhala Emoyeni wind farm project has been submitted in the second bid submission window of South Africa's renewable energy procurement programme.

Cennergi is a joint venture between South African-based diversified resources company Exxaro Resources Limited (Exxaro) and The Tata Power Company Limited (Tata Power), of India.

“Windlab are excited to be partnering with Cennergi, a company that sees wind energy not just as a leading energy source, but also as a means to address South Africa's unique economic, environmental and social challenges,” says Windlab Regional Director Peter Venn.

“The acquisition adds great value to Cennergi's expanding portfolio of renewable projects. This project is a good example of the potential that the renewable sector has to deliver lasting sustainable benefits to local communities and to the country at large,” says Thomas Garner, Energy Growth Manager for Exxaro.

“Cennergi are pleased to be developing this exciting project with Windlab, who bring to the table world-class wind resource assessment and a strong track record of developing quality wind projects.”
