Windlab teams up with under resourced school in South Africa

Windlab have teamed up with a school in an underprivileged community in Cape Town as part of its social investment programme.

Delivering quality education in South Africa is one of the country’s greatest challenges and is being tackled by government, the private sector and civil society.

A crucial element in the upliftment of schools and the improvement of educational outcomes is good school leadership. Most school principals in South Africa have not been equipped with the skills needed for this crucial role.  The Partners for Possibility (PfP) programme is working to address this skills shortage in partnership with some of South Africa’s business leaders.

The PfP programme establishes a partnership between a business leader and a school principal from an under-resourced school.

“Principals are partnered in a co-action and co-learning partnership with business leaders who bring their knowledge and skills about change leadership to the school,” says Founder and Director of PfP Louise van Rhyn.

Under this programme, Windlab Africa Managing Director Peter Venn and Principal of Levana Primary School Andre Lampbrecht have partnered to develop the school’s infrastructure and a sport programme for the Lavender Hill school.

“All of Windlab Africa’s staff will be joining Andre and me in the upliftment of the school,” says Venn. “With a principal of the calibre of Andre Lambrecht in charge, we look forward to building a school at the centre of the Lavender Hill community.”

At the end of 2014, the Windlab staff spent a day sanding and painting Levana’s Pre-Primary play equipment with sponsored materials from Kansai Plascon, Hire It and Builder’s Warehouse Constantia.
