Windlab has become a founding Catalyst Partner of the Biodiversity and Renewables Institute Australia (BRIA), a new initiative focused on advancing biodiversity outcomes alongside Australia's renewable energy transition.

BRIA is bringing together renewable energy developers, conservation organisations, researchers and industry stakeholders to strengthen the evidence base for biodiversity management and conservation across Australia's renewable energy sector. BRIA is being led and incubated by Wagtail Collective while its independent not-for-profit structure is established.

The Institute aims to foster collaboration, support essential research and help address biodiversity challenges at the intersection of renewables development and operation, through building shared knowledge and understanding, and practical, science-based solutions.

Nathan Blundell, Chief Development Officer at Windlab, said achieving positive outcomes for both renewable energy and biodiversity requires collaboration across the sector.

"The renewable energy transition presents a huge opportunity, but it also comes with responsibilities.
"To achieve positive outcomes for both clean energy and biodiversity, we need to continue building knowledge, sharing insights and working together across industry, research and conservation organisations.
"We're proud to support the establishment of BRIA and contribute to an initiative focused on practical, evidence-based solutions that can benefit both the environment and the renewable energy sector."

Martine Holberton, Co-founder of Wagtail Collective and of BRIA added,

“We're delighted to welcome Windlab as a founding Catalyst Partner. Getting BRIA off the ground is a huge collective effort and having industry leaders like Windlab step up and support what we're building means a great deal.
We're united by a belief that we can accelerate Australia's renewable energy transition while doing better for nature. Windlab's contribution reflects a shared commitment to evidence-based approaches, knowledge sharing and collaboration across industry, conservation and research communities."

BRIA's inaugural activities will help establish a shared understanding of existing biodiversity knowledge in how it relates to renewable energy, and identify priority evidence gaps to inform future collaborative research efforts.

For Windlab, supporting BRIA aligns with the company's commitment to responsible renewable energy development and continuous improvement in environmental stewardship.

As Australia continues to accelerate the energy transition, collaboration across industry, research and conservation sectors will play an increasingly important role in delivering positive outcomes for both clean energy and nature.
