Windlab has signed a new long-term Power Purchase Agreement with CleanCo for Kennedy Energy Park in North West Queensland, reinforcing the strategic importance of the region’s wind resources and delivering long-term certainty for the pioneering hybrid facility.

Kennedy Energy Park was the world’s first fully integrated renewable energy facility, combining wind, solar and battery storage behind a single point of connection, and achieved commercial operations in 2024. Located near Hughenden, Kennedy includes 12 wind turbines (43MW), over 55,000 solar panels (15MW), and 2MW of battery storage.

Its hybrid design takes advantage of the region’s complementary resources: solar delivers during the day, while strong afternoon and evening winds pick up as solar output declines. This diurnal pattern ensures generation when demand is high, improving grid stability and energy resilience.

Under the agreement, CleanCo will secure 75 per cent of Kennedy’s wind energy output over a 10-year term, supporting Queensland’s transition to a more diverse mix of generation.

Windlab CEO John Martin said the partnership reinforces Kennedy Energy Park’s role in making renewable energy more accessible for Queensland.

“Our agreement with CleanCo builds on our long history in the Flinders region and ensures Kennedy continues to contribute to Queensland’s clean energy future,” Mr Martin said.
“We’re proud to work with a partner focused on delivering reliable, sustainable energy for businesses and communities across the state.”

CleanCo CEO Tom Metcalfe said the agreement reflects CleanCo’s role in supporting Queensland’s energy needs as the state transitions to a more diverse mix of generation.

“Our customers are looking for sustainable energy they can count on and Kennedy’s strong, steady wind resource helps us deliver just that,” Mr Metcalfe said.
“Windlab has deep rots in Hughenden and the surrounding region. Their community engagement and long-standing project delivery in North Queensland make them a great partner for CleanCo.”
