Windlab backs national scheme with intent to raise the bar on how renewables are done
Windlab has confirmed its voluntary participation in the pilot of the Renewable Energy Developer Rating Scheme, a new initiative launched by the Australian Government this month to improve transparency, accountability and community engagement across the renewable energy sector.
We registered our interest earlier this year because we believe that renewable energy must be developed in partnership with the communities and landholders that host it. Our involvement reflects Windlab’s commitment to raising the bar across the industry and shaping a future where clean energy delivers lasting benefits beyond generation alone.
The scheme, delivered by Equifax Australasia Credit Ratings Pty Ltd, will assess developers on governance, financial stability, integrity, and community engagement capability. It aims to provide landholders and regional communities with clearer, independent information about developers seeking to operate in their area.
John Martin, Windlab Chief Executive Officer, said the scheme is an opportunity to help define what responsible renewable development should look like.
‘We’re participating because we want to help shape the future of renewable energy in Australia.
It’s about setting a higher standard that reflects the importance of trust, transparency, and long-term value for communities,’ Mr Martin said.
He said Windlab’s approach to development is grounded in collaboration and respect.
‘We work closely with landholders, Traditional Owners, and local communities to ensure our projects reflect local values and deliver meaningful outcomes.
This pilot gives us a chance to share what works and contribute to a framework that supports better engagement across the sector,’ Mr Martin said.
Windlab looks forward to contributing to the design and testing of the scheme and continuing to lead by example in how renewable energy projects are developed in partnership with regional Australia.
